The International Conference on Aerospace System Science and Engineering 2020 was Successfully Held Online

The 4th International Conference on Aerospace System Science and Engineering (ICASSE 2020) of Shanghai Jiao Tong university was successfully held in Shanghai from 14th to 16^th July, 2020. Due to the COVID-19, ICASSE 2020 changed to online meetings this year which is a new experience for the organizers, speakers and volunteers.

ICASSE has been successfully held three times in Shanghai, Moscow and Toronto, respectively. This year, ICASSE returned to his birthplace for a second round of development. The ICASSE 2020 was hosted by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and organized by The School of Aeronautics and Astronautics of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. It also has strong support from the University of Toronto and the Moscow Aviation Academy.

There are 10 sessions in total, including 15 topics which are Air Vehicle Systems, Space Vehicle Systems, Near-space Vehicle Systems, Aerospace Robotics and Unmanned System, Communication and Navigation & Surveillance; Aerodynamics and Aircraft Design, etc. These topics cover the main research directions in the field of aerospace systems.

The conference aims to enhance academic exchanges in the field of space systems science and engineering and to promote cooperation between universities and research institutions at home and abroad. The program committee has received and peer-reviewed 132 abstract submissions, 69 full paper submissions. The organization committee arranges 2 keynote speeches, 18 invited speeches and 63 regular speeches during the conference. This figure of merit goes much higher than previous years. ICASSE is playing a more significant role on the global aerospace system engineering stage.

The conference was hosted by Prof. Shufan Wu, the Executive Dean of SJTU SAA, who also delivered the welcome speech. Prof. Xingqun Zhan, the Organizing Committee Chair of SJTU SAA, delivered the opening speech on behalf of the organizer.

There are 2 keynote speeches: Prof. Tom Shih gived a speech with the title of “Challenges of the Adiabatic-Wall Temperature”, Prof. Ping Lu gives the speech with the title of” A Curiosity in Engineering Mathematics”. We also have 17 invited speakers from all over the world to give the invited presentations. The 3-days conference has a strong academic atmosphere and an active interaction.

In order to encourage young scholars to actively participate in scientific research, the Organizing Committee established five "Best Paper Award". Professor Zhongliang Jing present the prize to the award-winners.

Finally, associate dean of SJTU SAA, Prof. Xingqun Zhan, hosted the closing ceremony of ICASSE 2020. The conference is the forth international academic conference hosted by SJTU SAA, and the next conference will be held in Moscow. At the same time, the third international academic journal will be established by Springer soon and the articles can be indexed by EI and Scopus soon. The journal and conference will help to strengthen international peer exchanges, create opportunities of international cooperation and improve the international reputation of the school.
