Recently, Professor Nickolay N. Smirnov from the Department of Mechanics and Mathematics at Lomonosov Moscow State University, Academician of the International Academy of Astronautics, and Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, visited the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and exchanged ideas with the research team of Professor Chen Fang. Both sides discussed the construction of the international cooperation platform "Joint Innovation Center for Aerospace Mechanics", joint training of doctoral students, academic and scientific research cooperation, and further explored the construction of a closer and more stable long-term cooperation model.
Academician Smirnov has a profound cooperative relationship with the SAA, serving as the deputy editor-in-chief of the journal Aerospace Systems, and is also a Distinguished Visiting Professor and Senior Visiting Scholar at SJTU. During this visit, Academician Smirnov's team first came to the Aerospace Power Innovation Laboratory, where both sides exchanged and shared ideas in the fields of advanced aerospace combustion technology and aviation electric propulsion technology. The electric duct fan engine, which achieves efficient and stable conversion of electrical energy to thrust, was evaluated by Academician Smirnov's team as "an important exploration for the future transformation and upgrading of aviation, and the realization of green aviation power."
On August 14, the SAA held the fifty-first "Looking Up at the Stars" academic salon, and Academician Smirnov's team was invited to give a report and exchange. Academician Smirnov took "Fluid mechanics and its application for describing basic processes in nature, technology, and society" as the theme, showing several examples of tasks that require predictive computational modeling. He said that the integration of multidisciplinary fields plays a key role in promoting the innovation of aerospace technology and encourages young scholars to dare to cross boundaries and be brave in breaking through.
Professor Skryleva and Mikhalchenko, members of the team, respectively took "Numerical and experimental modeling of multi-phase flows in microgravity" and "Control of detonation and its application to Space propulsion" as the themes, shared the content of the scientific research work carried out, showed the latest scientific research results and experimental data, and had in-depth interactive exchanges with teachers and students, and the atmosphere was warm.
At last, Chen Fang said in this exchange activity that Academician Smirnov, as a well-known scholar, has led the team to achieve outstanding scientific research achievements. The Joint Innovation Center for Aerospace Mechanics will take this exchange as an opportunity to further strengthen international cooperation, broaden academic horizons, and continuously improve the level and influence of scientific research.
